The New Year

The new year is, indeed, almost upon us, and indeed, I don’t feel much different. By Death Cab for Cutie’s cues – as seen in a video that most closely resembles one of those beer commercials designed to make Miller Lite look upscale – this is the prime season for glorious romantic moping. Any time is a good time for moping, of course, but there’s something about holidays that makes your everyday nagging ennui take on a grander scale. Working late nights and going home alone; dreary most of the time, extra poignant on a holiday. In fact, moping and self pity might be almost as enjoyable as holiday pastimes as actually having fun. If you’re particularly good at compartmentalizing, you could even contrive to do both.
