As might be noted by their absence until now, I haven’t paid much attention to Damon Albarn and Blur up until pretty recently ( but sometimes I listen to that one Gorillaz song.) Apparently the former icon of 90’s Britpop is thoroughly middle-aged now, and thoroughly respectable. Respectable enough to get some guest help from Brian Eno, which is the reason I was moved to check out his latest record. And it was pretty good. This song is a standout, partly because I like a pop song that features a gospel choir, and not least because, in a near overload of cuteness, it’s about a baby elephant. The baby elephant is a real one, residing in Tanzania, and he is said to be a big fan of gospel music. No word as to whether or not he likes 90’s Britpop.
