Not typically up my alley, but as far as punk rock goes, Social Distortion belongs on the highest shelf. They’ve made their career perfecting a simple Clash-based musical formula of bad attitude, intense loudness, and righteous frustration. With the requisite frequent lineup changes and extended vacations at rehab camp, of course. After thirty-plus years of consistently being productive and not dying, Mike Ness has become one of punk’s elder statesmen, and a nice vegetarian father of two with a lauded collection of Americana and his own hot rod shop on the side. He sounds like a really swell fellow.
