Lisztomania

Phoenix are an unusual thing; a French rock band. That rocks pretty well. Not that France doesn’t have a long and important musical tradition; I’ve talked before about the influenciality of French chanson music. France is also home to some pretty important EDM practioners (Daft Punk, Justice). But France hasn’t produced much actual what you’d call rock and roll. So now there’s Phoenix, who sing in English and sound very Britpop. Would I say they’re a vital band who will be iconized for all posterity? Nah. But they’re pretty good, sometimes even very good, and they’re still young, so they may prove me wrong on the whole posterity thing.
