What a charming song. Definitely a song for those bad attitude days. It’s not going into any anthologies of Lou Reed’s lyrical achievements. Those books exist and this song doesn’t need to be in them. It serves a different purpose. It belongs on the wild side of Reed’s reputation. Not the guy who went to Syracuse and hung out with poets and had his own literary agent. The other vision of Lou Reed, the scary rock’n’roll badass with the leather jackets and the take no shit attitude and god knows what drugs up his sleeve. Reed did a great job throughout his life of balancing street cred with intellectual gravitas. This is the no gravitas street cred side.
