One prob w/ Winehouse as a role model was that to the traditionalists––for want of a better description––she was too conveniently the quintessential tragic caricature. She was the mythic wayward woman who steps out of bounds and suffers the consequence. Clearly, whatever her fight, it was one to be lost. Not the least of her problems was her tragically monumental insecurity as well, expressed in her anorexia, boob jobs, bad companion choices, her public drunk crying jags, etc. (You wonder, how much talent does one need to be free of it. This was essentially Bill Clinton's prob too.) In retrospect, it's both heartbreaking and interesting to see how it all went so wrong. Watching her performance here we're reminded how pretty she was in the beginning and how unpretty she'd eventually come to be. It was as if she felt she'd done too much damage to ever correct and just gave up on herself.

That aside, I appreciate your well written POV.

This song would be Bill Wyman's "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds"––ikind of interesting when considering that in his 30+ year career as a Stone THIS would be his sole statement as a song writer.

Wyman had said in an interview that in his first time playing with Keith, the only reason Richards spoke to him at all was to bum some fags. Richards publically thought that Wyman's solo career was a joke. In the Godard film "Sympathy for the Devil" we saw that when the whim struck Richards, Wyman didn't even get to contribute as a bass player--on "Sympathy" he's lucky to even shake a maracas. (I don't think Wyman got to play much on "Exile" either.)

To remain a Stone for as long as he did no doubt Wyman would've had to swallow bucketfuls of pride. As for his non-band related pervy antics, there's no good excuse for that.

Great blog, BTW. I appreciate your insights.
