And here is how a remix is done correctly. Take something that’s already classic and awesome, like Astrud Gilberto, and tweak it in a modern direction, without losing the spirit of the original. Tricky, I know, but it can be done. That’s what the Verve Remixed series is all about. It’s not exactly a huge difference, it’s just a little bump up in tempo. It’s insulting to take a sample of some hit song and take the best part of it and use it as a backdrop for some drunken asshole talking shit and call it a rap single. It’s a disgrace, and it’s artistically lazy. If you’re going to sample and remix, you have to have respect, and if the best part of your song is a part of somebody else’s song, you should just shoot yourself, because you’re not an artist.
