Here Comes the Night


Super high drama rendition by David Bowie. Bowie wasn’t especially given to subtlety during his reign as Stardust,  and Pin-Ups was just a romp anyway. How you think Bowie’s cut compares to Them’s original is up to you and your tastes. I’ve never been a fan of Van Morrison, so obviously I’ll take David Bowie’s glam, camp and feathers. I think that, being a somewhat silly song to begin with, it greatly benefits from some camp and humor. Bowie belts it out with a lot more conviction than Van Morrison shows in that clip below, but with a sly wink. Because another adolescent ode to a cheating girlfriend is way below his standards, but he’s going to pretend that it’s not.
