Classic sixties Brit-style rhythm’n'blues. Which I think The Animals were masters of, for a while there, before some people’s egos got too big for their britches. First they were just The Animals, then it became Eric Burdon & The Animals, then it became Eric Burdon with no Animals in sight. All of which was kind of a downhill slide. Because the early stuff is classic, then there was some mediocre stuff, and who the hell listens to Eric Burdon solo? As I understand it, they couldn’t stay together as a band because Burdon kind of went kookoo for koko puffs, as we doctors like to call it, and also heavy drinking may have been involved. Which is kind of sad, but not entirely unheard of in rock circles. I hear Burdon’s become a heavy conspiracy buff, going on about who murdered Jimi Hendrix and things of that nature. Too bad, but again, not unusual. Now if only he still made good music…
