Hello Darkness

Every Shocking Blue song on YouTube comes superimposed on the same tour-of-Japan video. And every image search is pictures of emo chicks with blue hair. Which means that Shocking Blue, with their number one hit Venus still on the airwaves, are forever burdened by the One Hit Wonder stigma. At least in the US. They were big in Japan. And Germany. Any, you know, all those places that aren’t America. That’s just too bad for America. They don’t get to enjoy the amazing voice of Mariska Veres. Shocking Blue didn’t make very many albums, but they sure had a lot more than one great single. They had about a dozen songs that are just as good. What I love is how Mariska always sounds so tough and strong even when she’s singing about heartbreak and sadness.
