Nothing will harm you and nothing will stand in your way
How many of you remember this one? It’s only one of the most beautiful Rolling Stones songs. I love everything about it. The tempo, the swirling ringing bells, Mick’s voice, the words. It’s psychedelic, sexy, inspiring. The Rolling Stones can do anything, and I particularly love it when they do psychedelia. Would they’d do more. Maybe Heaven isn’t considered an ‘important’ song, but I think it’s a classic. I don’t think a song needs to be specifically about anyone or anything to be a love song. I think it’s definitely a love song; it conveys so much emotion and sensuality in just a few lines. And I think it’s enormously inspiring – “No one will harm you, no one will stand in your way.” I really can’t think of a better message to take to heart. It’s like a blessing. There’s something about it that really reminds me of those moment when you’re with someone and you feel so close and so good and you really want to share it, but you’re too fucked up to move or do anything, but you know you’re in love and there’s electricity between you. And you send them a blessing, in your mind.
