Now for something pretty: Moya Brennan’s voice. Moya (formerly Maire) Brennan has been one of the leading lights in Celtic music since the 60′s, but her fame has been overshadowed by her sister Enya, who has been a leading light in making people hate Celtic music since the 80′s. Moya is a lovely, gracious lady who I’m sure doesn’t in the least bit resent her sibling using the ancient musical traditions that she worked so hard to reinvigorate, in the service of selling insipid New Age crap to people too stupid to know the difference between art and kitsch. Seriously, Enya is the Thomas Kinkade of Irish music. Moya has been influenced by New Age forces in the past, but has returned to making authentic, heartfelt music again. She still has the voice of an angel, to use a forgivable cliche, and she has soul.
