Brendan Benson is definitely best known as that skinny curly-haired guy trading vocals with Jack White in the Raconteurs. That’s how I found out about him, as have most people. He does have a career outside of that though. Which nobody has ever heard of. I can’t judge fully, as I’ve only heard his most recent solo album, My Old Familiar Friend (2009). I thought most of it was pretty nondescript, though I’m not saying it’s bad. Benson has a nice voice and his songs are all pleasant to be around. Faint praise, I know. It’s just, though I enjoyed it, none of it stuck with me, except for this song, which is about as uptempo as it gets chez Benson. Maybe I just wasn’t in the mood for it, and I should take a look at his other albums before I accept or dismiss him as a solo artist.
