Don’t Want to Know

Do you remember how in 1994 daisies were really trendy for some reason? You will after you watch this video. It features floral arrangements that just scream 1994. 1994 was also a time when everyone was suddenly all about using primitively greenscreened video ‘collages’. When slapping a random ‘frame’ over your video was the cutting-est of edges. That’s in there too. Nowadays any schoolchild can whip up these effects on their iPhone, but in ’94 it was wow. Which should, if you’re inclined to think that way, make you all fuzzy with nostalgia. In all, I think this is a charming video – dated, very but stylish indeed. And besides, doesn’t Bryan’s hair look particularly dreamy?

And in personal life news…Today, my domicile of Austin TX has been brought to its knees by the unexpected appearance of an inch of snow. Turns out this city owns not a single snowplow, they don’t know about salting the roads, and of course nobody has chains or ice-scrapers or four-wheel drive. So the streets are solid with ice. In the hour I spent walking about this morning I lost count of how many cars I saw skid, screech, spin out and slide around. I didn’t see a single bus in that time, but if there was one, I’d be afraid to get on it. In fact, I’m not certain even walking down the street is safe right now. Goddam Texans don’t know how to drive, period. With snow and ice in the picture, the whole city is a deathtrap. Needless to say, I haven’t made it to work, though from what I hear nobody else has either. For a lifelong East Coaster, seeing a city incapacitated by a fine powdering of snow in the morning is amusing, to say the least.
