The 1980 Floor Show was as close as David Bowie ever got to staging his epic 1984 musical. He couldn’t get the approval of a leery Mrs Orwell. What we’re left with is a few tantalizing songs. And this show. Which is now on DVD. I highly recommend it. There’s a wealth of Diamond Dogs and Pin Ups material, which there’s very little film footage of. Come for the music, stay for the costumes. Our lad insane is at the high-glam peak of his anorexic Martian extravagance, looking wild-eyed and delectable whilst teetering in faaabbbylous footwears. I think some of the getups are Kansai Yamamoto haute couture. A most precious artifact and eternal well of inspiration. Which should get you off into the new year bright eyed and bushy tailed.
