Country Comfort

There’s some hilarity to be found in Elton John’s repeated attempts to adopt a country bumpkin persona. Especially if you only know him as he is today – the flamboyantly wealthy connoisseur of all things sparkly and lavish. Of course, Reginald Kenneth Dwight wasn’t born with a tiara on his head. He didn’t have the most glamorous upbringing, but that doesn’t quite explain why he’s been fascinated by simple country boy characters. It helps to remember that Elton John almost never writes his own lyrics, and most of what he sings about in fact stems from Bernie Taupin’s life. Still, it’s pretty funny to think of a guy who likes to dress as Marie Antoinette singing about raising barns.
