Eno plus Cale equals dream team. Eno is, famously, a dream collaborator capable of making even a limp dick like Chris Martin sound like a proper artist. Eno did make a series of unique and fantastic solo albums, but decided that plain old pop songs were boring and then spent decades creating pointedly forgettable aural wallpapers. As a producer, his trick was giving other people’s records the echo of his own records. With his old buddy Cale at the microphone, he finally made what truly sounds like an Eno record through and through. You know the formula; smart, otherwordly, atmospheric cerebropop.
