Model of the Week: Helena Christensen

Helena Christensen |

I’m late with my weekly model, sorry about that. I’ve been very busy warming up for the holidays, trying to buff up my atrophied tolerance for alcohol and relearn how to function in societal situations. So the models had to wait. Now without further ado; the tasty Danish truffle Helena Christensen. If you’re thinking “hey she don’t look Danish,” that’s because her mother is Peruvian and that’s where she gets her toasted almond glow. I’m coming up with food imagery because Helena seems like a woman of strong appetites. In fact, she’s an avid cheese lover who’s been very vocal about the sensual pleasures of scarfing a nice pound of cheese or two. A woman after my own heart, clearly.

Back to the Start

Doesn’t Lily Allen look amazing in the video? She’s often talked about her self-image struggles and insecureties. Which is sad, because of how utterly adorable she is. Her little accent is thoroughly charming as well. She recently stated that she’s lost interest in making music and has no plans to continue recording. Which is sad, because she has got a knack for it. Her music is very unabashedly pop, very bubblygum. But pop and even bubblegum can be used for good as well as evil. When it’s being used to express some honest thoughts, like Lily does, then it’s good.

A Bunch Of Lonesome Heroes

Here’s the words. The video has guitar chords. All you need for you own karaoke party. Because when you think karaoke, you obviously think Leonard Cohen songs. Right? Not so much, no. I don’t know what that movie is either.

A bunch of lonesome and very quarrelsome heroes
were smoking out along the open road;
the night was very dark and thick between them,
each man beneath his ordinary load.
“I’d like to tell my story,”
said one of them so young and bold,
“I’d like to tell my story,
before I turn into gold.”
But no one really could hear him,
the night so dark and thick and green;
well I guess that these heroes must always live there
where you and I have only been.
Put out your cigarette, my love,
you’ve been alone too long;
and some of us are very hungry now
to hear what it is you’ve done that was so wrong.

I sing this for the crickets,
I sing this for the army,
I sing this for your children
and for all who do not need me.
“I’d like to tell my story,”
said one of them so bold,
“Oh yes, I’d like to tell my story
’cause you know I feel I’m turning into gold.”
