God damn! Jack White is such a passionate performer. I’ve seen him live with the Raconteurs, and his playing is what Jim Morrison would call ‘shamanistic’. He seems to be channeling some primal musical demon. I’m hoping to catch him with the Dead Weather when they hit ACL in Oct. I’ve heard their live show is something fierce. I can’t imagine Jack as anything but the focal point, so I’m curious. He’s such a magnetic frontman, it seems somehow wrong for him to be anything else. But maybe he doesn’t always want to be that figure. I’m really hoping this ACL thing works out, because by next year he’ll be doing some new project. Maybe he’ll be playing sax in a retro-swing orchestra, or a tap-dancing barbershop quartet, or fronting a troupe of skydiving Elvis impersonators, or maybe he’ll make a solo album on which writes all the songs, plays all the instruments (which he made himself) and produces it in his own studio that he built with his own hands, while wearing a series of color-coded outfits that he hand-sewed from his grandmother’s old curtains, or something so bizarrely awesomely out-of-left-field that I can’t even imagine it yet.
