Like all the songs on Layla this one is about mega-muse Patti Boyd. Patti was at the time suffering the final dregs of her marriage to George Harrison, making for one famous triangle. It’s a testament to Harrison’s meditation enhanced maturity that he remained friendly with Clapton.
