Aqualung

“Salvation a la mode and a cup of tea”

Aqualung, Jethro Tull, Aqualung, 1971

Two live performances of Aqualung, dated 75 and 77 respectively.

Aqualung is jtull’s most recognizable song. Their only recognizable song some may say. Aqualung the album is also their best known, and considered their most ‘accessable’, although it’s no more accessible than any other jtull album, maybe even less. As their most famous song, it may seem like an apex, but in fact Aqualung was only their fourth album, and many more masterpieces were forthcoming. Aqualung may be their most acidly political album, with many songs taking aim at the Anglican Church (‘the bloody Church of England’). The title character is a homeless man, nearly freezing to death on his park bench.

The fantastic videos are rare footage of Tull at their peak. Take note of Ian Anderson’s unique Midieval style of dressing. Anderson tops the very short list of Men Who Acutally Look Hot With A Beard. Who else is on the list?….I’ll get back to you on that…
