Angel In My Heart

Angel In My Heart, Mick Jagger, Wandering Spirit, 1993

This is from Mick’s third solo album (out of four), and the only one to get good reviews. Mick’s solo career has been much maligned, for not sounding like the Rolling Stones more that any other shortcoming. Wandering Spirit was well recieved, undoubtedly because parts of it did sound like the Rolling Stones. This song does not sound like the Stones. But it would be a mistake to put out of Rolling Stones range – who says the Stones could never dabble with harpsichords and virginals. For my part I quite like Mick’s solo work (with the exception of Primitive Cool, which really does suck). I enjoy hearing Mick go in different musical directions, so I liked the pure eightiness of She’s The Boss, and the trendiness of Goddess In The Doorway. Mick has just come out with a solo best-of, which does seem kind of pointless in light of he never had any solo hits and everyone hates his work.
