The editors of Time are evidently very excited by the upcoming newest edition of Dover’s series of First Family paper dolls. But they can’t wait that long! Hence, this cover.

I can see the big idea. Apperently Obama is facing issues similar to those faced by F.D.R. and he would do well to learn from his example. But could there have been a less cheesy way of illustrating this concept? The New Yorker apparently thinks he’s the new Lincoln and they illustrated that idea without resorting to stovepipe hat symbolism.

Peter Tosh was born with the deeply uncool name Winston Hubert McIntosh in Kingston, Jamaica. He was a founding member of the Wailers, along with Bob Marley and Bunny Wailer. He left the Wailers in 1974 and made his solo debut in 1976. He found success after signing with Rolling Stones Records. The support of the Stones helped make his album  “Bush Doctor” a success. It gave him his hit single ‘Don’t Look Back’ a duet with Mick Jagger.

Tosh was always more openly political than Bob Marley. He protested Apartheid, nuclear war, the poverty both in Africa and at home in Jamaica. He is best known for his pro-marijuana stance, expressed in songs like ‘Legalize it’, ‘Bush Doctor’, ‘Mystic Man’. In 1987 Tosh was assassinated in his home. While officials claimed it had been a simple robbery that went wrong, many people believe that the killers had been sent by the Jamaican government to silence his dissenting voice.

‘African’ is from the 1977 album “Equal Rights”
